Wood ducks were nearly extinct at one time, and because of hunters’ concerns, all hunting of them ceased. Hunters were instrumental in the rebuilding of the ducks’ habitat and it became one of the most successful wildlife rehabilitations. I have always marveled at this bird’s color and perfection, and for this bronze sculpture I wanted to incorporate a sense of pride into the birds’ positions and postures.
