Casting Bronze

STEP 7: Creating the Gating System

After approval of the hollow wax image by the artist, a gating system is built and attached to the form using wax branches that are also hollow. This system provides channels for molten bronze to travel to the cavities created when the wax is melted. Each individual sculpture has its own specific gating system and a funnel-like cup at the top for easier pouring of the liquid bronze.
